Penny and Miller – Two Rescue Danes Meet!
Penny was with her family at Ft. Funston in the city and saw this very cute brindle great dane. Turns out it is also a rescue girl adopted from us about 2 1/2 years ago named Millie. Here is the cute photo of the two girls, who played and had a ball. Thanks to both super families for giving these girls great homes. 
Norah (formerly Kaylee) in her new home
Puppy Norah enjoying ranch life with her new pack. Here is what her owner Cindy wrote to us about her:
“We have changed Kaylee’s name to Norah and she seems to be adjusting quite well. I do have to say though – -she is a bed hog! The drive home was uneventful. She slept the whole way home. Such a good traveler! Today we started our normal routine and she did fantastic. She stayed within eyesight most of the time. The rest of the time she was off playing with Dusty. What a pair those two are!! The sounds of the tractor and the manure spreader didn’t even phase her and she really couldn’t care less about the horses. A little curious, but that is it. She is such a sweet heart!”

Message from Maddie and Cole’s owner Steve:
“We just wanted to let you know that Maddie (newly adopted from Karen) is doing great. She is adapting quickly to her new surroundings and schedule. Her and Cole are having a great time. Cole even seems more calm with her here (although he did try to go after the police dog in his class last night!). We took Maddie to the beach on Monday. Just like Cole she runs from 2″ high waves. We walked in the forest yesterday. She really seemed to enjoy that.”

Karen writes: “I’ve had Madison for ten months, in that time she helped me with five foster Great Danes. She bonded more with one in particular, and that was Cole. She was never the same after he was adopted. I finally called Cole’s new family about the possibility of adopting another Dane. Well, they came to Reno this weekend. Maddie and Cole picked up where they left off six months ago…love was in the air…again! They are now on their way back to Santa Cruz, all four of them. Thanks to Steve and Donna for opening their hearts and home for another of my pups. Love you Madison and Cole …be happy!”

We know how hard it was for Karen to let Maddie go, and we thank her for her continued superlative foster care skills and for all the love she bestows on her fosters. The Danes that live with Karen are very lucky indeed!
Donovan – Another Final Photo

Kailu (formerly Kahlua) In her New Home
What a wonderful new life Kahlua has! Thanks to Carolynn for adopting her. Here is what Carolynn wrote to us about Kailu: “She’s a happy energetic girl. We call her Kai for short. All three dogs get along well, we have taken her hiking and on walks off leash and she does great. She listens to commands very well. We just love her, soooo happy to have a big dog back in my life.”
Donovan – Rest in Peace
So sad….. poor Donovan passed away a few days ago unexpectedly. His owner, Amber, fed him and her female Dane, and a few minutes later came back into the room and he had passed. Such a shock. Thanks to the Bargers for providing Donovan with a wonderful year of love. Over the last year Amber had brought Donovan over to visit me in the back of her small convertible. Such a sweet sight to see this very tall fawn male sitting in the back. He was such a placid boy, rescued from the Sacramento shelter where his owners dumped him. I had the privilege of doing foster care for Donovan until adopted, and he was such a sweet, calm boy. I am so sorry for their loss. But am so glad that the last year of his life with filled with joy.
