Tealy Barr, owner of Barr Estate Winery in Paso Robles, sent us this photo of Rita Waterman and Bill Berryman, longtime adopters of Great Danes, who took a drive to this wonderful winery to meet Riley, the gorgeous harlequin girl Tealy and her husband adopted from us three years ago. Barr Estate Winery is a good destination for some fun wine tasting and to meet Riley!
Well it’s been a year since Lincoln has been adopted. He’s looking more handsome than ever. He loves Ella and Emmett, his canine companions. Lincoln never bother with the family’s birds and just recently discovered the iguana who has been with the family long before Lincoln was adopted. Was he just too busy with other things?

Stunning photo of Baloo and Opal relaxing in the Santa Cruz mountains. As a reward for being so good, the puppy Opal got to sit on tolerant Baloo for the next photo. Thanks to Tony and Stephanie (and Tracy too!) for providing both these rescued Danes a wonderful life! Two lucky Danes! (Tony and his mother Tracy are long time rescue volunteers with our group and can always be counted on to take on any Dane and make it work. Now Stephanie has joined the family and seems to be up for the challenge.)

It didn’t take Nelson long to make himself at home. Thanks to Brian and Elaine for coming back to adopt from us again. Sadly they lost their sweet Magnus earlier this year. They contacted us to let us know they were ready to bring another Dane into their family and Nelson was thrilled.
Michael was surrendered at seven months old because three goats were killed. We brought him to Reno to determine if he had high prey drive or was simply a big puppy unsupervised around livestock. Within days it was clear that Michael was a sweet, shy, 115 pound puppy that didn’t know his own strength when he played. Due to his temperament, I decided to keep him and train him to be my partner and a big brother to all the foster Danes that would be coming in.
Fast forward to the present. Michael is celebrating his fourth birthday. Yes, he does look older but being a big brother to Danes coming and going is hard work. He has accepted 17 Danes into his home. Some were easy breezie, some not so much, but he was patient with them all. He helped them in ways I couldn’t, just by being a good dog. Right now we have Daisy & he has done wonders with her.
Michael, I want to wish you a very Happy Birthday. I’m so proud of you and love you very much.
Yay! I know this seems like an odd post, but I received a text from Maggie’s sainted owner, Julie Meyer, who said they were waiting on biopsy results from some large lumps/sores on the inside and outside of Maggie’s jaw. Maggie suffers from Canine Leproid Granuloma syndrome which just won’t permanently go away! Julie has Maggie on “cytopoint” injections to help with her allergies, but Maggie still has outbreaks of the CLG which cause very ugly lesions to grow on her face. Well, Julie just let me know that the biopsy came back “NO CANCER”, but rather a hypersensitivity allergic reaction in her lymphatic system. We celebrate this good news because Maggie is probably the best dog in the whole wide world. She has the best temperament I’ve seen and is so loving. She came into Rescue a mess, we thought we cleared her up (many vet visits, amputating her ear and part of her tail, months of different antibiotics, etc.) only to find out after Julie adopted her that the CLG was still hanging on. Julie has been dealing with this for years and just loving her Dane and not blaming us!(although we feel VERY guilty). So today is a day to celebrate a wonderful Dane and her wonderful owner and wish them many years together. Thank you Julie!
