Great Dane Wine Anyone?

A very nice family who owns a winery in Paso Robles,adopted this lovely harlequin puppy named Riley from us recently. Above you see a product of their vineyard, a 2013 Bordeaux blend Dane Head wine. We previously posted this bottle and have had people reach out to us and inquired where to purchase this wine. (what a great gift for your Great Dane friends or yourself!)

Grace

Another wonderful owner, Nikkie Doucette, adopted Grace from us. recently When she came to meet Grace, Grace was very shy, but Nikkie saw past that. Everyday Grace opens up and Nikkie is seeing a happy, comfortable girl now. Thanks to Nikkie for taking a chance on a shy sweetheart!

Sky and Jasper

Thanks to Kendall Smith, adoptor of Sky, who is working with Sky’s issues. She is firmly committed to making Sky a happy girl around strange dogs (she loves Jasper thank goodness) and has hired two trainers to help Sky with her “I don’t like dogs we meet on walks” issue. We love owners like Kendall who realize sometimes rescued dogs need work and love. Thank you Kendall!

“A Hard Goodbye” – Kale

Our condolences to Paula Huffman on the loss of her girl Kale. Pictured above is Kale and her brother Augustus with Paula. I remember Paula adopting Kale, a Dane with issues. She was not good with other dogs and had some other things to work on, but Paula did not give up and stuck with it. My heartfelt thanks to Paula for being a true Great Dane person who put in the work needed to make Kale the Dane she knew she could be. Here is what Paula wrote about Kale:

“I’ve been dreading this email….this inevitable email. But I did want to let you know that I had to say goodbye to my sweet girl Kale. She was over 10 years old and my dear companion for over 8 1/2 years. Tears fill my eyes and are literally running down my cheeks as I write this. Even thought I have Augustus, my other Dane, there is an emptiness in our home. Life is different and we are learning to adjust without her quirkiness, her silliness and her presence. I am so grateful to you and Great Dane Rescue for providing me the opportunity to have her all these years. What you guys do at the rescue matters and it really does positively impact many lives. I will always be grateful for you.”

We are grateful to Paula.

Levi and Gideon

Levi and Gideon enjoying their Indian Summer.Thanks to the Mecklers for taking the time to make Levi a member of the family. It wasn’t an instantaneous fit, but they felt an instant bond with Levi and were determined to make him acclimate. They were rewarded with a wonderful dog who now feels like he has always been with them. Bravo!

Riley and the Winery

Thanks to Tealy Barr for adopting little Riley. Lucky girl Riley is now living on a 85 acre winery, the Barr Estate Winery in Paso Robles. (see wine bottle below). If you are ever in the area and want to taste their wines, please stop by and say hello to Riley. What a great gift for a Dane friend…a lovely bottle of wine with the best breed in the world on the label! (Maybe they ship? – Christmas present?)
