Luna Has A Great New Home

Luna Has A Great New Home

Long time Dane owner Martin Daly, recently adopted Luna as a Private Adoption. Here are some cute photos of Luna and her new big fawn sister Lucy. Martin says Luna and his rescue Dane male Barney are a pair! Thanks Martin for adopting this senior girl. Martin knows a good Dane when he sees one, regardless of age.

Great photo of “Lucy” Daly surveying her domain from her throne (recliner). I inadvertently left off this great photo from a previous post….. so enjoy this gorgeous girl!

Martin’s Kids

Martin’s Kids

Martin Daly, a long time adopter, sent us these photos of three of his “kids”. The black and white girl is Jewel, who has passed. With her is her merle friend Barney, who was also a rescue Dane. Lucy is the big light brindle girl surveying her domain from her recliner! Martin adopted Barney (now 9 years old) when he came into our group and went through a toe amputation. He was so shut down, just shy beyond belief, and Martin came to see him and gave him the time he needed to allow Martin to get him into his car and adopt him. Martin has a history with us of adopting very shy/shut down Danes and making it all work out (thinking of his beloved Cinnamon, a fawn Dane mix who he had to carry to his car). Thank you Martin for providing these damaged Danes with a loving home. We share in your loss of your girl Lucy.

It’s Really Cold!!

It’s Really Cold!!

Titan and Shawnee are well taken care of in this cold weather by their Mom Barbara Slobodian. When Barbara adopted Titan, she wasn’t sure if after losing her beloved Cochise, she wanted another Dane. Shawnee was older and Barbara was not sure if Shawnee wanted another Dane brother. When her attempted adoption of another breed fell through, Barbara came to see skinny Titan and that was it. Now he has great weight, he and Shawnee obviously are close, and all is well! Thanks Barbara!

Athena Update

Athena Update

Annie sent us this update on her rescue girl Athena.

Athena and Layla

“Athena turned three this past October and I just wanted to share a quick update as well as some pictures.
>
> My husband Jesse and I adopted Athena 2 years ago right before she turned 1. Our first year with Athena was really tough. She had a lot of health issues, including being diagnosed with IBD and had an inability to put on and keep on weight. She was also really scared of many things including men. This year has been completely different. We feel like she has finally completely settled in. She is healthy and finally gaining weight! When we adopted Athena, she was 85 pounds and really skinny. We went through multiple diets and treatments. Once we got her on the right diet and had her IBD under control, she started eating regularly and feeling healthy. She is now a healthy 103 pounds and likely still growing.
>
> Athena is still timid with some people especially when they first come to the house, however she has improved so much. She still barks at Jesse, but she does now approach him for pets. They have also worked on training and walking on a leash. She is much more comfortable with him and I am hopeful that their relationship will continue to improve.
>
> Athena loves the little kids in her life. We have a niece and nephew who are 5 and a new baby niece who is 5 months. She is so gentle with the kids and adores the baby. She is overall just a gentle and good dog. She still goes to daycare and is a model citizen. She plays well with all sized dogs and is even teaching a younger Great Dane how to be a good big dog.
>
> We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to bring Athena into our lives. We have had some hard times, but overall she brings so much happiness to our family and we could not imagine life without her. She is my gentle giant silly couch potato princess and we love her so much.”
>
> Stay well,
> Annie and Jesse

This is the kind of story about an adoption we love. Not all Danes smoothly transition into their new homes, and we are so thankful for people like Annie and Jesse who stuck it out with Athena and have been rewarded with their princess! They went the extra mile to help Athena settle in and be a healthy, happy girl. We are so grateful!

Bodhi Loves Zoe

Bodhi Loves Zoe

Bodhi, adopted as a young boy by the Cook family, had no children experience. Buy now he is owned by grandparents, and he has wonderfully accepted all the grandchildren that routinely visit, and I would say he likes them! Pictured with Bodhi is his friend Zoe Cook, who is five years old and loves Great Danes!

Boom Has A New Home

Boom Has A New Home

A family reached out to us wanting to surrender their 10 month old puppy, Boom. They had no idea what 2020 was going to bring them when they purchased the Great Dane puppy earlier this year. Fortunately we had Sherri on our waitlist, and she was willing to take on the job of socializing and training this exuberant young male. She and her family are exactly what this puppy needs to succeed. Here is what she wrote to us:

“Boom (New name not decided) is settling in. The family all really loves him: my husband, My son Dog Whisperer Joe, daughter and her boyfriend, my mom and stepdad, my sister, and even my picky son Will who is at Boise State. We face timed him and his girlfriend and they wanted pics. That’s huge for Will.

Cooper(the family dog) is adjusting nicely. Only time he gets riled up is if he feels Boom is getting a little too rambunctious with one of the family members.”

Tucker Has A Great New Home

Tucker Has A Great New Home

Tucker (Private Adoption) is home! Thanks to Alysicia (a previous adopter) for stepping in to help when Tucker’s original family was unable to get his vaccinations updated before adoption. It’s good to have a vet tech in our “family” during these crazy times.

Kiko – Another Successful Private Adoption!

Kiko – Another Successful Private Adoption!

Kiko hit the jackpot! Merrill and Mary, who are long time adopters from our group, met Kiko and made her a part of their family. Kiko will have a wonderful life with her people. Here are some sweet photos and a quick note they sent us:

“Here is Kiko with her toy getting comfortable, seems to be adapting well to her new home.”

Cole and Maddie Update

Cole and Maddie Update

We had two Danes in rescue back in 2015 that had a wonderful connection with each other. Cole was adopted and we planned on Maddie staying with us to help evaluate the future fosters. She did wonderful with the fosters but seemed to lose a bit of her spark after Cole left. After a few months I called Steve and Donna; Cole’s family, and asked if they would like another Dane. Once they knew it was Maddie, they made a road trip to Reno and the two Danes were once again united.

Here’s an update from Steve & Donna.

“Maddie and Cole are doing great. Maddie still can’t stand for for Cole to be out of her site. She still cries if I take Cole for a walk without her. You were absolutely right that those two need to be together.

Today they had there first chance to run on a beach together unleashed. They absolutely loved it. They had so much fun they have been sleeping for hours. Attached is a short video and a few pics.”
