Tucker Update

Tucker Update

An update from Alysicia on her second adopted senior Dane. Unlike so many, it’s the quality of time, not the quantity of time you have with a Dane in need. Here’s what she wrote:

Hi,
I wanted to give you a quick update. Tucker is doing great and we adore him everyday. Thank you again.
Have a safe, happy holiday.

Moose at Christmas

Moose at Christmas

Maureen, a long time adopter of our rescued Danes (four times to be precise!) sent us this update on her boy Moose. Her family is never focused on age or color or size, but rather just wanting a Dane with a good temperament and to provide him/her a loving home. Thank you Maureen and the whole Mason family, we wish we could clone you and your family! Here is her update:

“Moose is doing great- he loves going for a ride. We started taking him once in a while so he’d be used to riding to the vet. Now he’s ready to go every day, anywhere. He a very good guy in the vehicle so now that it’s cooler he gets to go more. I’m sure we’ll be sorry come warm weather.
He’s in great health. We had a little scare in June- a mass started forming under his jaw. You can just guess what was going through my mind given our history but fortunately it was only a foxtail! Quick recovery.

All our best, Moose and the rest of the Masons”

Whiskey Blue Update

Whiskey Blue Update

Whisky Blue was adopted as a private adoption due to all the shut downs with covid. Maggie was patiently waiting on out adopter’s list and finally won the lotto on this boy. Here’s her update on Whiskey.

“Happy Holidays! Thought I’d update you on our beautiful boy He’s 150 lbs now Whisky had a session with a trainer and he is doing great with sit, down and stay. Still working on the growling but he’s doing better.
He’s having anal gland issues with one infection and is going through a second round of antibiotics. Hoping pumpkin will help add fiber and clear it up. If you have suggestions, let me know.
He loves going to school. Today was the second to last day before winter break. We were twins for the student materials pick up. He was such a good sport and the kids (and parents) loved seeing him! I have no doubt our twin wardrobe will expand! Thank you Karen for being a wonderful matchmaker!

Hope all is well with you. Have a great holiday.”

Update on Kevin

Update on Kevin

We got this nice update from Kika on her Dane boy Kevin:

“I just wanted to say hello and send some photos of our sweet Kevin. It’s been a year since we brought him home and I’m so happy we did. We love him very much and he has a very happy life.

Kevin actually has his own couch that he usually sleeps on until about 6 in the morning when he “sneaks” into our bed and cuddles up next to me. I had every intention of keeping him out of the bed and off the furniture, but he’s just too darling and loves being comfy…so it didn’t take long for me to give in. He still romps around the yard and loves his aussie sister, Koda. They play constantly and have even started cuddling together in the last few months. Thank you so much for the work you do, and for bringing us Kevin. I couldn’t love him more; I try not to let the other dogs know he’s my favorite ?.”

Merry Christmas!

Kylo in his new home

Kylo in his new home

Sherri Myers and her family recently adopted Kylo as a Private Adoption and here is the nice update she sent:

“Kylo is doing great. He is a quick learner and such a handsome boy with his pearly white teeth, long legs, and shiny blue black coat. He is now adjusted to our home though it took him some time to accept our dog Cooper. Kylo and Cooper are now getting along but they had three pretty good rows. Each time, Kylo attacked Cooper and had him pinned by the throat but our Cooper is a fighter and was not going to take any crap from the Big Guy. Kylo quickly learned that Cooper may be smaller and half his weight but he can hold his own. I was so sad at one point that it may not work out but we kept working with both of them and now they are buddies.

Kylo is a typical Dane and doesn’t like to be alone so he is always by our side whether we are in our home or outside working. Cooper will take off exploring but Kylo stays close and constantly needs reassurance that we are still there. He has that wonderful deep Great Dane Bark and can appear intimidating but he is a big chicken when it comes to certain things. He is super curious and has to have his nose in everything. He loves to play ball and fetch and can destroy a soccer or basketball in one day. He is an amazing jumper and cleared a five foot fence like it was nothing. We’ve beefed up the fence lines along our six acres but he is not a runner since he wants to be where his pack is. He knows how to open our sliding glass door with his nose and can work our screen doors until they open. He is a rascal. He gets a lot of exercise every day so he sleeps very well at night.

My whole family loves Kylo and he is meeting neighbors who have also given him many scratches and compliments. Even my good friend and neighbor who is extremely intimidated by dogs is warming up and accepting him.

Thank you to Karen with the Great Dane Rescue in Reno for hooking us up in this private adoption. She has spent a lot of time with us and answering all my questions providing good advice on feeding and training.

Thank you to Colleen with the Great Dane Rescue for hooking me up with her vet to get Kylo neutered. The cost to neuter him at my vet was double so her help was invaluable. Plus she provided us with a beautiful big Great Dane bed.

Blake Celebrates Christmas In Style

Blake Celebrates Christmas In Style

Michael (father to Blake the Great Dane) sent us this note. Thank you Michael for the wonderful life you are giving Blake. Not many of our Danes get a farm bought with them in mind.

“Blake is happy, healthy and wise, here at Ash Farms! Blake is the farm protector and my loyal companion. He is my shadow and follows my every move. I love him to the moon and back! I am so grateful to have him in my life (even when he hogs the ENTIRE bed)!”

Harper in Training

Harper in Training

Sherri Lane, mother to the late skinny boy Clifford, adopted a new Dane girl Harper (from another rescue group). But as Sherri will always be family, we love to see photos of her new girl Harper. Here is what Sherri wrote to accompany this photo:

“After a semester she will be cool as a cucumber!”

Thank goodness Missy’s mother Elaina doesn’t spoil her girl! Three years old!!

Happy Birthday Missy Mittens!

Happy Birthday Missy!

Happy Birthday Missy!

Elaina Hernandez, another long time adopter, sent us this note with great photos of her girl Missy’s birthday celebrations:

“My sweet Big Head aka my Missy Mittens had her 3rd Birthday this past week November 11th. We had the day off together due to Veteran’s day.
Tuesday she passed out party favors filled with Trader Joe’s cookies for her fellow daycare pups to enjoy and brought the daycare staff a human cake to celebrate her bday too.
Wednesday her actual birthday she started off with a pupachino from our favorite Starbucks and a morning walk on our rec trail next to beach. We visited our Vet office and she brought them a Birthday cake cake and Starbucks for a pick me up afternoon snack. And she had a pawdicure (nails trimmed).
She ended her evening with a vanilla cupcake with whip cream frosting. She loved wearing her Birthday bandana both days too. This girl had a great 3rd birthday I would have to say!
Heres some pics of our Birthday girl!
Talk to u soon”

Elaina Hernandez and Missy Mittens

Elaina is one to never quit on a dog. Missy had some separation anxiety when she was adopted, and Elaina just kept working on it to the point where Missy is much more relaxed now. Thank you Elaina for putting in the time with Missy. Like alot of our wonderful adopters, Elaina knows that most rescue Danes come with some issues and need time to adapt and work things through.
