Rest in Peace Sasha

Rest in Peace Sasha

Miss Lady Sasha Dane – 15 Dec 2005 – 19 Jan 2018

Our sincere condolences to Kathy Moraes for the loss of her beloved girl Sasha. Here is what Kathy wrote to us about Sasha’s passing:

“Sasha passed on due to complications from Degenerative Myelopathy – a condition in which affects the myelin sheath in the spine. 9 month ago diagnosed – these past 9 months walking slow though at a steady pace – helping her to maintain a healthy and happy mind and life – even in her condition – still enjoyed her morning sunshine – barking at the dogs in the neighborhood from her backyard – loving her numnums and rubdowns – as time was passing her DM was becoming more apparent. I could see her trying to maintain her demeanor and dignity – it all climaxed Friday afternoon collapsing in her backyard, collapsing on the grass – immediately taking her to the vet. She could barely walk – I held her in my arms and said farewell and I whispered little prayers – whispered in her ear I love you Sasha. “Ta” as I called her and touched her very softly behind her ears and God welcomed her into the kingdom of heaven.”

Kathy and her family gave Sasha such a wonderful life. You can see many photos of Sasha on our website. We are so sorry for your loss Kathy.

Logan – Therapy Dog?

Logan – Therapy Dog?

Nice note and cute photos of special boy Logan!

“I am so excited I just had to share with you. As you know I have turn Logan into quite the social butterfly! We go to the bank, post office and have now been to the local Police station to visit.

When we were at the bank last week this women ran up to me and said here I had these business cards made up just for you! Our local non profit organization wants to know if you would be interested in joining our Pet Therapy Team with Logan? We see you walk him all over Auburn and everyone knows about Logan! He would be perfect. He will need to go through their certification program in order to get his big blue vest but will be a therapy dog! Who the heck ever knew I would do this with him?

They would have us go to assisting living facilities, retirement homes, and god for bid a tragic event happens (like school shooting) they would have therapy dogs brought in.

I think he is ready, we have some issues but more that will come with maturity than bad behavior. But we’re going to give it a try.

Just couldn’t wait to share with you! Thank you for this beautiful big boy, he has really changed my life and so much for the better!!”

Missing Leo

Missing Leo

Our condolences to the Mason family on the sudden loss of their very special boy, Leo. Leo was just five years old when he passed and Maureen had adopted him from Rescue approximately two years ago. Leo came into foster care with Karen in Reno weighing just 95 lbs. He was a sad, skinny boy. Karen got him up to 108 lbs on a special diet. He never seemed to be able to surpass this weight. The doctor did numerous testing on Leo to try to explain his weight, but nothing came back abnormal. But this did not stop Maureen Mason from adopting him. She saw past his weight and loved the wonderful boy inside.

Prior to his passing, Leo was diagnosed with Addison’s disease and unfortunately stopped eating, and a day and a half later passed. He was happy and active in his loving home for almost two years.

To add to their sadness, the family had recently lost their other Dane, Bella Katie, to heart failure at the age of seven. Katie was a shy girl that flourished under Maureen’s care. She was loved and cherished for almost three years by the Masons.

This is a special family that loves Danes, and are willing to go the extra mile for a Dane that need a home. Maureen said this is the first time in many years they are dog-less.

Brina

Brina

Brina’s owners, Andrew and Glen, sent us these sweet photos with the note below:

“It’s been 6 months since we brought Brina into our pack. At first I have to admit, I was wondering if it was going to work out. There were days she would pee in the house, opening doors trying to escape, skittish about certain things and then through patience and lots of love, we can say she is acclimated to our life. She and Harvey are two peas in a pod. I often wonder how we got along with just Harvey.
She loves the dog park, especially showing off her skills running. She also loves laying on her bed in front of the fireplace on a cold night. She loves sneaking into bed and keep it it warm for us.
There are still some things to work on, like her fear of water and pooping on the concrete right next to the grass. Alas we are patient and know it will all work out.
I guess the point of this email is to thank you for placing such a broken baby with so much potential in our loving home.”

Happy New Year!

Andrew and Glen Chadwell

This is a good narrative to read if you are considering adopting a rescued dog. Many people contact us wanting to adopt a “rescue”, but want that Dane to be totally trained, no issues, and fit seamlessly into their lives. They want to be able to say they adopted a “rescue”, but really don’t want to put in the work needed. Andrew and Glen, who previously had adopted Sabrina from us, knew the challenges but were up for the work it took to make their girl Brina the kind of dog they wanted (almost!). These are the kind of adopters we look for when placing a Dane in a new home. Are you up to the task??
