Cole and Maddie Update

Cole and Maddie Update

We had two Danes in rescue back in 2015 that had a wonderful connection with each other. Cole was adopted and we planned on Maddie staying with us to help evaluate the future fosters. She did wonderful with the fosters but seemed to lose a bit of her spark after Cole left. After a few months I called Steve and Donna; Cole’s family, and asked if they would like another Dane. Once they knew it was Maddie, they made a road trip to Reno and the two Danes were once again united.

Here’s an update from Steve & Donna.

“Maddie and Cole are doing great. Maddie still can’t stand for for Cole to be out of her site. She still cries if I take Cole for a walk without her. You were absolutely right that those two need to be together.

Today they had there first chance to run on a beach together unleashed. They absolutely loved it. They had so much fun they have been sleeping for hours. Attached is a short video and a few pics.”

Missy Update

Missy Update

Elaina Hernandez, a long time rescue Dane owner and friend to our group, sent us this message about her new girl Missy:

“So its been 7 months with Missy Mittens. This big headed girl of mine is still working through her separation anxiety when Ricky and I leave. But I have tricks up my sleeve that have helped. Like a car ride with one of her aunties while Ricky and I work on our advanced obedience classes.

Missy is now loving going to daycare with or with out Ricky her hairy brother. She’s. Blossomed and has her days to play with a her friends alone once a week. Advised by our trainer and its helped her anxiety a smidge!

Missy mittens just passed Canine Good Citizen prep class and test!. I’m a proud Momma!

Missy also enjoys patio outside dining these covid 2020 days. She does so well.

She’s awesome with my boyfriends family and the kids! The kids! They love her SO much. Its so fun to to watch them with her.

She’s loving her world here with us now!
She’s still learning and continuing our manners classes and fungility nights. She’s conquered the tunnel and the crawl but the tunnel is her favorite!
She’s super friendly with everyone I’m so not used to that but I’m learning to trust her and she is of me!
Here’s some pics
Hope all is well!
Again thank you for letting me be her new Momma!

Paisley In Her New Home

Paisley In Her New Home

Paisley and Breck

Paisley was a private adoption from our site. Here is what her new owners wrote to us:

“Sorry this took so long to send but it is 2020. Just wanted to thank you for your help in finding Paisley. She has been a perfect match for our family. She was a bit over weight when she cam home but having another Great Dane to run and play with has put her back in shape. We cannot thank you enough. The cats may disagree though. She likes to try and cuddle with them. Talk to you soon. Ken, Connie Breck, Paisley & BailNHey. (3 female dogs in the same house. Yes it can be done.)”

Jim Simpson Has Passed

We are very sad to announce that a long time friend and foster care home of Great Dane Rescue has passed. Jim Simpson, owner of many rescue Danes and foster care home for our group, has passed on at the age of 58. At the time of his passing, he did not own a Dane, but was still interested in doing foster care right up until his last months. He was a gentle man, who truly loved our breed and felt there was never a Great Dane that he could not work with. In the later years, Jim was confined to a scooter to get around, but still was able to do foster care. He would walk his foster Danes from his motorized chair and never felt he did not have total control of the situation. Even when we would doubt if this was a good idea, Jim made it work! One time he was doing foster care for a very skittish female Dane, and walked her to the store and back (on a very busy street) and we were sure he would either lose her or she would tip him over! But like he said, he could handle it! He was especially good with shy Danes who just needed some time to settle in and trust people again. He was a calm presence and quickly the Danes learned to trust him and open up. I spoke with Jim’s cousin Tara who said this about her cousin: “He was just the kindest person I’ve ever met in my life. He taught me so much. He took care of my Mom when her brother passed away and she was still a little girl and took care of my grandma when she passed away back in 2008”. Our condolences to the whole family.

Jim passed with his family by his side and we mourn his departure from our world. Rest in peace Jim and thank you for all you did for Great Danes and our rescue group.

Goodbye Skinny Clifford

Goodbye Skinny Clifford

Our condolences to Sherri Lane on the loss of her beloved boy “skinny Clifford”. Clifford got his name because of his incredibly long legs and thin frame.
When Sherri first came to see Clifford, she remarked how skinny he was, and he really never bodied up. But she loved him anyway. Sherri always kept in touch with the best photos of her love exploring “the city”.
Here is what she wrote about her special boy:

“SKINNY clifford has passed. Almost one week ago today it was time for my EVERYTHING to move on and be someone else’s EVERYTHING.

Colleen. Thank you so very much for allowing ME to be part of Clifford’s life. He was 10 years old and while he was with me he became a great art critic in the streets is San Francisco. He was a busy boy! He became a great meter reader, a sleep scientist, an explorer, an expert chair Yogi, pet, angel and an OVERALL GOOD BOY.

My heart is broken. We have been with each other 24/7 for years and years. Oh how I loved and will always love him. I miss him more than anyone could ever imagine. RIP Cliff and I will see you on the other side my love.

Stevie Still Loves Her Dad

Stevie Still Loves Her Dad

Stevie just wishes her Dad Glenn was a bigger guy so she could totally curl up on his lap. Love those grey faces! Thanks to the Cook family for sharing their family photos!

Here is they wrote to us about their Danes: “Stevie is such a lover girl. Our two Danes are just incredible. They absolutely light up our lives. Bodie (their male gorgeous harlequin) is hands down the smartest dog we have ever had. And they both have wonderful, affectionate personalities. Thank you for the gift of Stevie and Bodie.”

Rest In Peace Jordan

Rest In Peace Jordan

The Herring family wrote to let us know they lost their gorgeous big girl Jordan recently. Jordan had come in just after giving birth to twelve puppies, and her owners were moving back to Poland. Merrill and Mary adopted her and gave her a loving home. We offer our sympathy to them for their loss.

Here is what they wrote to us:

“We rescued Elsa (renamed Jordan) in June of 2016, she was our fifth Great Dane rescue and was a sweetheart. She had a great life chasing squirrels on our property, every couch inside and out was hers. We had to put her down do to a large fast growing tumor in her left shoulder, she was almost 8 and we enjoyed every minute with our gentle giant.”

We’re Still In Business!

Just wanted to post this message to let everyone know we are still up and running! It has been very slow these last few months, but we are still looking forward to taking in Danes in need should they arise. We hope you wonderful Great Dane people are well out there and we send our love to you and your beloved Danes!

Magical Birthday Picnic

Magical Birthday Picnic

OK, so this photo has nothing to do with Great Dane Rescue, but I loved it so much I had to share! This is my son’s girlfriend Lisa’s birthday picnic, complete with pony who just happened to walk by with it’s owner. Honestly! (I guess I need better friends….)
